missing tooth replacement options

When it comes to oral health complications, there are few problems taken more seriously than adult tooth loss. Even the loss of just a single tooth can dramatically alter the comfort, function, and appearance of the smile. It is vital to address tooth loss and replace missing teeth, even in the case of a single missing tooth. At The Dental Implant Place, we discuss with our Fort Worth patients single tooth replacement options, such as dental implants, which anchor dental restorations to the jaw bone. Dental implants can restore the function, integrity, and beauty of the smile when a tooth has been lost.

Dental Bridges

The traditional treatment option for the loss of a single tooth is a dental bridge. A dental bridge is a dental restoration that fills the gaps that are left between teeth when a single tooth or group of teeth has gone missing. Dental bridges are supported on either side by dental crowns that are affixed to existing teeth. While dental bridges can effectively replace a missing tooth to restore oral functions and aesthetics, they do require alteration to what are likely to be completely healthy, natural teeth. Because of this downside of dental bridges, we do not recommend dental bridges treatment for tooth loss. Instead, we prefer dental bridge treatment when a group of teeth has gone missing and we are able to secure the bridge with dental implants rather than dental crowns.

Dental Implants

At The Dental Implant Place, we prefer to move beyond traditional treatment and provide patients with the advanced technology and benefits of dental implants. Dental implants are an excellent option for a patient whether a single tooth, a group of teeth, or an entire arch of teeth has been lost. In the case of single tooth replacement, we anchor a dental crown to a surgically placed dental implant, which is a small titanium screw that connects to the jaw bone.

The advantages of dental implants is that they offer patients maximum security, they continue to stimulate healthy growth in the jaw bone, they can be cared for just as the natural teeth, and they are extremely durable (with proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime). Once the dental implant has been placed and has had time to fuse with the jaw bone, a dental crown will be attached. The dental crown will be customized to complement the shape and color of the natural teeth so that it blends in seamlessly with the smile.
