all on 4 implants, all on four, dental implantsArguably the most attractive feature of All on 4 is that you receive a new “fixed” (non-removable) set of teeth which are supported and anchored by dental implants rather than adhesives. While receiving non-removable teeth is desirable, there’s a dental implant alternative to All on 4 implants that not only provides a fixed set of teeth, but also achieves greater longevity and a more natural fit. This alternative is implant supported zirconia bridges. Zirconia bridges provide all of the benefits of an All on 4 without the negative aspects.

Which Feels More Natural?

Both All on 4 implants and Zirconia bridges are held firmly and permanently in place by dental implants. However, one key difference between the All on Four and the Zirconia Bridge is that the All on 4 implants is essentially a denture. It’s made from acrylic and will therefore have a plastic palate that will partially cover your gums. This can create problems when your teeth and gums need to be cleaned. Food debris and bacteria will likely build up under this plastic ridge and cause irritation to your gums or, worse still, lead to gum disease.

Zirconia, on the other hand, does’t require an overlap to your gums to be secured firmly into place. Instead of being screwed onto your implants, zirconia is cemented firmly to dental implants so that your gum tissue can breath. This means that zirconia will feel as similar to natural teeth as any tooth replacement option available. Furthermore, zirconia can be cleaned the same way as natural teeth, by brushing with fluoride toothpaste!

Which is More Durable?

Zirconia is the hardest material available in dentistry for making prosthetic teeth that look natural. It is extremely durable and can last a lifetime. Acrylic, while also durable, is a form of plastic that cannot last as long and won’t withstand the same amounts of pressure as zirconia. It’s far more common for acrylic dentures to need repairs from cracks or breaks than zirconia. This is why zirconia bridges provide greater longevity when compared to All on 4 implants.
